The PADI Open Water Diver course certification is the most known & respected in the world, opening the world's oceans, rivers and lakes for exploration and adventure.
The course provides new divers with the knowledge and training to safely explore our exciting undersea world.
It is a performance-based curriculum, enabling students to progress at their own speed. The course includes academic, confined water and open water instruction.
State-of-the-art teaching techniques and tools are included in the curriculum, in order to ensure that the content is up to date and exciting.
Blue Horizons offers complete course flexibility by allowing you to design the program that works best for you. You will need to select one option from each column below.
The eLearning option provides great convenience for students.
If the Internet is not your thing, we offer a traditional classroom setting using a textbook and a DVD. With this option, we schedule six hours of classroom time that run concurrently with your pool session.
Watch, listen, read, scroll, tap and interact while you learn to scuba dive with PADI Open Water Diver Touch ™. It’s fun, easy, portable and it is your entry to the underwater world as a scuba diver.
The Touch integrates the PADI Open Water Diver Manual with the PADI Open Water Diver Video into a powerful, tablet-based learning experience.
There is no need to be online after downloading the Touch. You can truly learn anytime, anywhere.
Want to try it? Download the free PADI Library app for Apple or Android and experience the Touch introduction. Trying to decide which method of learning is best for your PADI Open Water Diver course? Contact us and we can assist with your selection.
The course is completed in one weekend at the Blue Horizons location in Glen Mills. Arrive at the shop on Saturday at 8 a.m. for both eLearn and Classroom Academics. The course runs Saturday & Sunday from 8 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Our Flex sessions allow you to set your own schedule. We will conduct your academic sessions in the store during anytime when we are open. All that you need to do is to give us a 24-hour notice.
You can complete your pool dives in Glen Mills. Most students can complete the course in two pool sessions; some prefer more. These sessions need not be consecutive. During June, July and August, more pool times are available.
For those who are looking for the ultimate in flexibility, we offer private lessons at your place or ours. You set the schedule. Get the ultimate in personal attention. Blue Horizons can also structure a class specifically for you and your friends.
The third element of certification is demonstrating your abilities through four Open Water dives that are conducted during two or more days. Consistent with our commitment to flexibility and to fun, Blue Horizons offers three options for completing this training phase and for becoming certified.
The most convenient option for many divers is to join us for a local weekend of diving. Blue Horizons offers these training weekends at DUTCH SPRINGS, near Allentown, PA. The diving weekends are scheduled monthly from April through November.
All equipment rentals and air fills are included in the fee, as well as lunch. You will need to pay the entrance fee to Dutch Springs each day. We take care of the rest. Also included, is your permanent photo certification ID card. Our staff will conduct the dives for any course in the PADI curriculum each weekend — perfect for a friend or a spouse who wants to come along.
If you are looking to set your own schedule or to complete the Open Water course with flexibility, Blue Horizons offers Flex Sessions.
One available flexible option is an escorted trip led by Blue Horizons during the year. So, you may complete your certification in a tropical location. Equipment rental and your permanent photo certification ID card are included in the cost of your escorted trip.
If you are looking to set your own schedule for private diving time, private sessions will give the one-on-one instruction time that you desire.
Your private instruction can be completed with Blue Horizons or it can be performed at any PADI dive facility in the world, by referral (additional fees apply). We will provide you with your permanent photo certification ID card application form, and an introduction letter for your next instructor.
All of our open water course options include use of equipment necessary to complete the program. Students are required to supply their own personal gear (mask, fins, snorkel). We have great selections available in a Global Diver Package Option specifically designed for new students. We will fit you with your selections when you are getting your required professional fitting, prior to the course.
Blue Horizons offers two special student packages at a significant discount for purchase before or during the course instruction.
It is also strongly recommended that students purchase and learn in the gear they will be using during the course and after — when certified. We can assist in your gear plan options, showing selections for all budgets.

Are you a certified diver who hasn’t been able to get in the water enough —too much work, not enough play?
Join us on the first Saturday of each month (excludes December) for $10 Bubbles and a Beer. For $10, any certified diver can join us in the pool. Tank is included. Don’t have your own gear yet? For another $10 you will get an entire scuba kit to use.
Cylinder and weights are included with first $10.
Right after the event, we will head to one of the local watering holes/restaurants to grab a beer, some food & hang out. The restaurant will be a family-friendly establishment, welcoming those who can drink beer, as well as those who can only drink root beer. For those who want to drink beer, proper ID and legal age are required.
Come as often as you like; we would love to see you. Blowing bubbles is always a great time, even if it’s just in the pool. Please call to sign up so we know how many are coming.
Event costs include scuba-related activities, only.
Private dates are available for all courses — by appointment.
